Earth Charter’s Sustainable Indiana 2016 will host an essay contest for writers of all ages who want to share their ideas for conservation in honor of Earth Day. This contest is open to anyone in the Michiana area. Winners in 3 categories: youth, teen, and adult, will get a chance to dazzle the attendees of our Earth Day celebration at Howard Park on April 25, 2014 with a reading of their work. Volunteers from Sustainable Indiana 2016 will judge the essays and present the winners. Region 1 Regional Coordinator Charlotte Wolfe says “share how you enjoy nature and how your hopes and dreams for the future are inspired by our beautiful Earth. We are excited to see your entries!” You may wish to describe a special moment you have had in nature; things you are doing to have less of an impact on our environment; or ways our government and businesses can adopt green ideas.
Essays should be between 500-800 words and should be submitted to Charlotte either by email or mail before April 1, 2015 for official inclusion in the contest. Reading of the winning entries will take place between 12-1 pm at the celebration. There will be gift certificates and other prizes for the winners and every participant will get a ribbon!! Youth is up to age 12; teen is 13-19; and adult is 20 and over.
