Neighborhood Resources Connection is accepting nominations from SB neighborhood associations for two individuals who you think should carry the SB150 torch for your neighborhood! As part of the celebration, SB150 and NRC are working together on a torch run that would take place in South Bend neighborhoods during the first weekend in May.

Zones 1-10 will carry the torch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, and 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. The final stretch will be completed by Mayor Pete during the big SB150 birthday-weekend bash. Accommodations for those who are unable to run include a driver. NRC is asking Neighborhood Associations to nominate two individuals you would like to honor by having them carry the torch representing your neighborhood.  There will also be an opportunity at the SB150 website for the community-at-large to nominate individuals but we have reserved two spots for each SB Neighborhood Association.  In addition to carrying the torch, each of the torch bearers will be profiled in the South Bend Tribune leading up to the birthday bash.   Please note:  This online nomination is to be used by recognized neighborhood associations ONLY.  Application deadline is April 17.

Criteria to consider when making your selection:

(1)
Demonstrates efforts beyond their own individual responsibilities as a neighbor. For example, checking in on a neighbor who has been ill or is housebound, shoveling a neighbor’s walk, etc.
(2)
Shows concern for their neighborhood’s well-being,the overall quality of life in the city and the transformative activities. For example, clean up efforts, beautification projects, public art, and the pursuit of historic designations.
(3)
Overcomes obstacles or takes risks in pursuit of creating, developing, and furthering strong neighborhoods in a manner that exceeds typical volunteer service; such as chairing the annual block party, building relationships with law enforcement, using social media, and or producing a newsletter or managing the neighborhood website.
(4)
Encourages neighbors to participate in activities which benefit the entire neighborhood, such as forming neighborhood watch or organizing a rally to stop unwelcome development.
(5)
Demonstrates results. For example, encourages or mentors neighborhood youth to take an active role in their community.
(6)
Models a true spirit of what it means to be a good neighbor. For instance, going the extra step to welcome new neighbors or volunteering at a local school or charity without expectation of recognition.
